When did the word ‘cocktail’ first appear in print?
MOREThe word ‘cocktail’ first appeared in print is in 1803, and three years later, the definition of the word appeared in the May 6 1806 edition of The Balance and Columbian Repository a newspaper published in Hudson New York. The definition given was “a stimulating liquor composed of any kind of sugar water and bitters”. This is thought to be the first time that the word was used in reference to a mixed drink.

Blend briefly in a cocktail glass with half a glassful of crushed ice. Garnish with a sugar-dipped strawberry, and serve.
Amaretto Di Saronno Liqueur
Amaretto is a liqueur, a sweet Italian liqueur that originated in Saronno. There are different brands and each have their slight variations and ingredients vary from apricot kernel, bitter almonds, peach stones or almonds, all these are natural sources of the benzaldehyde that brings the almond flavour to the liqueur. Amaretto usually contains a 21% to 48% Alcohol by Volume.
Amaretto liqueur can be drunk straight or used as an ingredient in mixed drinks, or with coffee.
The name Amaretto originated from the Italian word amaro, meaning bitter. Amaretto's bitterness is derived from the drupe kernel and although the bitterness of Amaretto tends to be mild, sweeteners and at time sweet almonds are added to enhance the flavour of the final product.White Rum
In the making of Rum, the produce of the fermentation and distillation process of molasses is a transparent spirit, which is then aged in vats or barrels and the end result of the ageing is Rum.
White Rum differs from Dark Rum in this process of ageing, while to produce a Dark Rum, the distillate is aged in a large charred oak barrel, White Rum is aged in big stainless still barrels.
There are no legal categorisatoin of Rums and it's just a matter of practice that dark rum is used in cooking or is drunk straight or with a Cola , white rums are mostly used in cocktails.Double Cream
Double Cream is the British version of American Whipping Cream, the only difference being it is slightly thicker with about 48% butterfat. It is a thick, rich, yellowish cream with a scalded or cooked flavour, which comes from the way unpasteurised milk is heated until a thick layer of cream sits on top.
Strawberry Syrup
Strawberry Syrup is another simple syrup of water, sugar and strawberry juice boiled and reduced to a syrup. Commercial Strawberry Syrup is manufactured by many and Hershey's strawberry syrup is the most known brand.
