Dark and Stormy #3

In which period did cocktail consumption saw the worst decline ever?

MORE

The late 1970s and early 1980s saw the worst decline in cocktail consumption ever. This was due to several factors including the rise of disco and its associated club culture which favoured hard liquor over mixed drinks; the popularity of wine among young adults; and the increasing availability of cheap mass-produced beer.

To this top with Barretts Ginger Beer. Ginger ale will not work. For this drink to succeed, use a strong, almost bitter ginger beer. Squeeze 1/4 lime into the libation. Top with freshly grated nutmeg. Do not use powdered nutmeg. Stir with a slice of fresh ginger and serve. Prepare more glasses ...seconds and thirds may be ordered if it's a hot day.

  • Goslings Black Seal Rum

Rum is a liqour that originated in the West indies and is made by fermenting then distilling sugarcane molasses or sugarcane juice. The distillate is usually a clear liquid and is then aged in oak barrels.

Most Rums are produced in the Caribbeans and American countries, but are now produced in other sugar producing countries like PHilippines and Taiwan.

The first recorded mention of Rum comes from Barbados, in about 1650. They were originally called "kill-devil" or "rumbullion" and later on, simply Rum.

  • Barretts Ginger Beer

Ginger Beer like Ginger Ale is a carbonated non-alcoholic beverage that is produced by the natural fermentation of prepared ginger spice, yeast and sugar. Ginger Beer has a stronger flavour and often uses real ginger while Ginger Ale uses ginger syrup.

Ginger beer started with spice trade with the orient and probably was an Oriental import since ginger fermented beer has been in use as medicine in China and India since 500 BC.

Ginger Beer is regulated to 2% alcohol if any alcohol is present at all.
