Yikes, this cocktail pulls no punches with its rather aggressive name! Thankfully the drink itself is more pleasant than painful. Tart citrus punch or juice provides the sweet-sour base. Aged Canadian whisky contributes warming vanilla and oak notes. Golden rum boosts the alcohol content with some faint molasses flavor. Pour all ingredients over ice in a tall glass. Give it a good stir with a long spoon to mix and chill. Add more citrus juice to taste - its bright acidity helps cut the bite of liquor. Sip cautiously through a straw. The punchy name promises a bigger bang than the actual cocktail delivers. Still, as with any strong drink combining spirits, enjoy in moderation!

    Ice is so obvious in most drinks, be it a straight drink or a mixed drink, that we often forget it's importance or even reason behind using a crystal clear good quality ice in a glass of whisky, or crushed ice in a tall glass to enjoy a cocktail.

    Ice tempers a hard liquor, and as is in the case of whisky for example, if you prefer the flavours of whisky reach your nose without the hard note of spirit lingering around, or want to avoid the mild sting of a neat whisky, a cube of ice mellows the strength down a little and as it melts slowly, the aroma and flavour is released from the whisky slowly and makes whisky progressively weak, lingering and palatable.

    In mixed drinks, ice plays an important role in creating the perfect temperature a certain drink requires and bartenders use ice in several different ways, crushed ice for long drinks that will allow the cocktail to slowly water down like a Mint Julep, Moscow Mule, Rum Swizzle, Sherry Cobbler and other Tiki drinks, a large block or cubes of ice for drinks that are spirit heavy, such as the Old Fashioned, Negroni, and Manhattan

  • Canadian Whisky

    Canadian Whisky is a blended multi grain liquor in which corn spirits are in a higher percentage over other grain spirits, and the whisky is lighter and smoother than other types of whiskies.

    Canadian corn whisky uses some rye grain added to the mash to give it more flavour and this characteristic style and flavour gave Canadian Whisky the name Canadian Rye Whisky or simply Rye Whisky.

    Canadian standards stipulates a minimum 3 years of aging in wood vessels and 40% ABV, and must be mashed, fermented and distilled in Canada.

  • Spiced Rum

    Spiced Rum is either Dark or White Rum that has been steeped with herbs and spices to render additional flavour to it. Spices can range from Cinnamon and Black Pepper to Rosemary and Anise seeds.

Neel B is an Electronics and Telecommunications Engineer and martial arts and fitness enthusiast. He is an avid reader, compulsive doodler, and painter. His love for cocktails arises from the art in it and the history that traces the ups and downs of modern civilisation over centuries.

Maniis an ERP and SaaS developer and architect by day and a cocktail enthusiast in her leisure. She holds a Masters in Computer Application and Programming.
