Warm up on a cold winter night with this hot buttered rum cocktail flavored with sweet apple schnapps. Smooth Canadian whisky provides the base spirit, accented by rich brown sugar butter. Fresh apple cider or juice adds a nice fruity tartness. Shake everything vigorously with ice to blend and chill. Strain into a heatproof mug or Irish coffee glass. Garnish with an apple slice studded with cloves if desired. Adjust cider amount to taste. Carefully heat in the microwave or on the stovetop until steaming but not boiling. The apple`s acidity helps cut the sweet richness. Sip slowly and let this Alaskan Apple thaw you from the inside out!

  • Apple Schnapps

    Schnapps is an alcoholic beverage that has no single form, it is in general a grain spirit that has a fruity, spicy and herbal flavour in it. It can thus be created the way liqueurs are created by steeping botanicals in grain spirits and filtering, or like a brandy be distilled from a fruity wine, or even simple infusion of botanicals, syrups or even artificial flavouring agents in a neutral spirit.

    Schnapps are typically raspberry, apple, pear, plum, peach, cherry or appricot flavoured.

    In Europe Schnapps usually takes the form of an Obstler or Obstbrand, which are traditionally made by fermenting macerated fruit and then distilling the fermented liquor in a process akin to the process of making a brandy.

    Obstler ( the German for Fruit, Obst ) has similarity with several verities of Rakija of the Balkans and Easter Europe.

    The other form that a Schnapps can take in Europe is a Geist. Geist is created by steeping and infusing berries into neutral spirits for weeks and then distilling it. This too is pretty similar to a fruit brandy.

    The third form a Schnapps takes is of a liqueur, these are created the same way all liqueurs are created by infusing fruits, berries and herbs in neutral spirits and filtering the product into a clear liquid.

    In America, Schnapps take the form of an inexpensive, heavily sweetened liqueur. American Schnapps are typically between 15% and 20% ABV (30–40 proof), while European Schnapps are usually 30% to 40% ABV or 60-80 US proof.

  • Yukon Jack Canadian Whisky

    Canadian Whisky is a blended multi grain liquor in which corn spirits are in a higher percentage over other grain spirits, and the whisky is lighter and smoother than other types of whiskies.

    Canadian corn whisky uses some rye grain added to the mash to give it more flavour and this characteristic style and flavour gave Canadian Whisky the name Canadian Rye Whisky or simply Rye Whisky.

    Canadian standards stipulates a minimum 3 years of aging in wood vessels and 40% ABV, and must be mashed, fermented and distilled in Canada.

  • Tonic Water

    Tonic Water originated in India when quinine was recommended to British officials and soldiers as a prophylactic against Malaria, quinine was mixed with soda to make it palatable, and since the British soldiers already received a ration of Gin, Gin and Tonic was born when Tonic Water was mixed with Gin and some sugar to make the medicine enjoyable.
    Modern commercial tonic water produced for causal mixing in cocktails contains very little quinine and has citrus flavour additions and additional sugar or corn syrup for a better taste.
