What is the 151 in an 151 Proof Rum

MORE

The 151 Rum like the now discontinued Bacardi 151 is an 100 Proof or overproof Rum that has an alcoholic content of over 75%. But why 151? 151 is the Octane rating of jet fuel, and 151 is the purest jet fuel. The 151 Rum indeed has the strength of pure Jet Fuel.

Neo-Tokyo Recipe

Use a bamboo skewer to elaborately connect an Orange twist, wrapped around a lime wedge, barely touching the Marachino cherry which covers the point. Pull half of the lime-skin away from the fruit and use the lime vertically (like a paperclip) to perch the entire crane-like garnish on the edge of a chilled cocktail glass. Combine sake, Stoli, Zen, Pucker, sours and ice into a shaker. Shake and strain into the glass, in front of the customer. Pour Blue Cura

  • Traditional Sake Rice Wine

Sake is a traditional rice wine from Japan, although it's more a beer than a wine. It is made by fermenting rice that has been polished to remove the bran. The difference being in beer and in most East Asian rice wines, starch is first converted to sugar which is then fermented to alcohol, where as in wine, alcohol is produced by fermenting sugar that is naturally present in fruits, like grapes. But there is a difference in the brewing process of beer and sake despite the similar starch to alcohol process. that is, unlike beer where start to sugar and sugar to alcohol are created in two distinct steps, sake is produced in one single fermentation process.

Sake is the national beverage of Japan and is served in special ceremonies, gently warmed and served in small porcelain cups called sakazuki. Sake uses K?ji-kin or Aspergillus Oryzae spores, instead of Yeast for the fermentation, koji-kin and yeast both are eukaryotic, single-celled microorganisms from the fungus family.

  • Stoli Vanil Vodka Or Svedka Vanilla

Vanilla is a spice derived from orchids of the genus Vanilla, the spice is obtained from the pods of the Mexican species of flat leaved Vanilla. The characteristic flavour of Vanilla comes from the aromatic compound Vanillin. Up to 85% of a vanilla essential oil is Vanillin.
Natural vanilla flavour is in pure form, a little more complex than plain Vanillin, but most of the times the Vanillin is what is needed to release that familiar flavour in a drink.
Note that when a drink asks for Vanilla extract, it means an extract of real Vanilla from Vanilla pods in an alcoholic suspension and is usually less processes and stronger, while Vanilla Flavour or Vanilla Essence is a processed product made using artificial flavours and colours. While a Vanilla syrup is a sweetened thick condiment with either real organic vanilla flavour or artificial vanilla flavouring.
The thumbs rule is, if you run out of Vanilla extract, go for Maple syrup as a replacement. Also note that artificial vanilla is strong and artificial vanilla flavour comes from Castoreum, a chemical compound that comes from a beaver's castor sacs, which are located between the pelvis and the base of the tail.
