What is the George Washington story behind the word Cocktail?
MOREAccording to About.com Washington and his men frequented a tavern where the drink glass was decorated with a cock's feather (a tail feather from a cock). Ironically Washington wore feathers in his hat and the cocktail originated when a fellow officer toasted to the "Cock's tail."

In a rocks glass, pour the Vodka over ice. Fill 3/4 with tonic water, add a splash of cranberry juice, then squeeze the lime wedge in.

Tonic Water originated in India when quinine was recommended to British officials and soldiers as a prophylactic against Malaria, quinine was mixed with soda to make it palatable, and since the British soldiers already received a ration of Gin, Gin and Tonic was born when Tonic Water was mixed with Gin and some sugar to make the medicine enjoyable.
Modern commercial tonic water produced for causal mixing in cocktails contains very little quinine and has citrus flavour additions and additional sugar or corn syrup for a better taste.Cranberry Juice
Cranberry Juice is rich in Vitamin C and antioxidants, the compounds that fight free radicals and kills harmful bacteria. Cranberry juice is a home remedy for Urinary Tract Infection.
Pure Cranberry Juice is sour and bitter with very low sugar in it, and thus fortified Cranberry Juice is used for consumption and sugar is added to it for taste. The resulting juice tart and sweet and with a pH of 2.6 it is quite acidic and is an excellent substitute for Red Wine.
