Hemlock Recipe

Mix in a shot glass, start with Jagermeister.

Poison Hemlock is lethal poison, but Hemlock tea made by steeping the needles of the Eastern Hemlock that grows all across Central Canada and the United States, in hot water, is a pine flavoured tea for the winter days. The Eastern Hemlock is a large tree and is unrelated to the Poison Hemlock herbaceous flowering plant which is a much smaller plant,

The poison hemlock plant is a close cousin of the fennel plant and the taste of poison hemlock is thus often confused with the taste of fennel, and mentioned to taste like liquorice since fennel has a deep liquorice flavour. The actual taste of poison hemlock is not confirmed and over the centuries several mentions of a sweet taste has been noted, and no part of this plant smells like liquorice.

So, evidently, a cocktail with the strong anise and liquorice flavour of Jagermeister, and a fruity, sweet and earthy Tequila being named after Hemlock, is either from the misconception that Poison Hemlock tastes like Liquorice or is inspired by the other Hemlock, the Eastern Hemlock, the needles of which when brewed has a piney aroma. The herbal texture of the cocktail and the greenish-brown colour probably reminds one of the tea of the Eastern Hemlock, on a winter day.

NOTE: This cocktail however, has a popular culture reference in the cult Hollywood cineme, Top Gun. Where Charlie says "I\'ll Have What He\'s Having. Hemlock, Is It?"

Charlie ( Kelly McGills ) mentions Hemlock as an analogy to the death of Socrates, who drank hemlock to commit suicide, at the airport bar. Pete Mitchell (Maverick) was so depressed over the death of Goose that Charlie felt it was a good idea to bring it up.

This is the cocktail that was being referred to, by Charlotte "Charlie" Blackwood.

It is used for various culinary and non-culinary purposes all over the world. Lime juice is known to reduce or even reverse the effects of excessive alcohol consumption and intoxication.
The difference between Lime Juice and Lemon Juice is that although the sweet and sour Lemon and the bitter and sour Lime are two different fruits, they have similar properties and tastes similar too, the Lime, unlike the sweet and large Lemon, is used raw and is usually plucked green and has more bitterness and sourness in it's taste, and is grown better in tropical and sub-tropical climates.
