Americans were happily ordering cocktails at bars since 1860, but then in the 1920, Prohibition was enacted and then, after long thirteen years, In 1933 the 21st Amendment was passed repealing Prohibition.

This amendment gave states the power to control alcohol sales within their own borders. So, while some states continued to prohibit alcohol sales others quickly lifted their bans.

As a result, Americans were able to order mixed drinks in a bar starting in 1933. A happy goodbye to hush hush speakeasies and bootlegging of hooch, it was.

Orthoniatis Recipe


Pour the kiwi liqueur, Bacardi white rum and pineapple juice into a cocktail shaker with 5 ice cubes. Shake well, pour into a collins glass, and serve.

  • Kiwi Liqueur

    Kiwi Liqueur as the name suggests, is a green kiwi flavoured liquor made from ripe Kiwi and ranges from light green to bright green in colour and is produced by several producers.

    Bols Kiwi Liqueur is a light green kiwi fruit flavoured liqueur, it is 17% ABV and is produced in the Netherlands.
    BVLand Kiwi Liqueur has a fresh aroma of ripe kiwis and bright green colour. It is 18% ABV and is produced in Romania.
    DeKuyper Kiwi Liqueur is a 15% ABV liqueur also produced in the Netherlands.
    Joseph Carton Kiwi Liqueur has a ripe kiwi nose and a long lasting flavour in the mouth, it is 20% ABV and is produced by Joseph Carton, France.
    La Playa Kiwi Liqueur is 24% ABV and is produced in Greece. Vedrenne Pages Kiwi Liqueur is a bright green and fruity kiwi liqueur, with a sweet scent of ripe kiwi, it is 18% ABV and is produced in Finland. VLand Kiwi Liqueur is a Spanish Kiwi Liqueur with an 18% ABV.

  • Bacardi White Rum

    In the making of Rum, the produce of the fermentation and distillation process of molasses is a transparent spirit, which is then aged in vats or barrels and the end result of the ageing is Rum.

    White Rum differs from Dark Rum in this process of ageing, while to produce a Dark Rum, the distillate is aged in a large charred oak barrel, White Rum is aged in big stainless still barrels.

    There are no legal categorisatoin of Rums and it's just a matter of practice that dark rum is used in cooking or is drunk straight or with a Cola , white rums are mostly used in cocktails.

  • Pineapple Juice

    Rich in antioxidants, this juice pressed from the pulp of the Pineapple is a good protection against cell degeneration, It contains bromelain, a group of enzymes known to reduce inflammation, improve digestion and boost immunity. In drink mixing, there is nothing like the tropical flavour of pineapple juice to add that tropical freshness and nuance to a cocktail.

    In drink mixing pineapple having a fruity tropical aroma pineapple juice is a good companion for tropical fruits such as mango, banana, passion fruit, and also pairs well with oranges and grapefruit juice.

    Pineapple juice is the juice pressed out of the pulp of the pineapple fruit, several varieties of pineapple are used to manufacture commercial pineapple juice. High on Vitamin C and enzymes that have been shown to activate healthy immune response, it’s a good juice to start a day. The enzyme bromelain in pineapple juice, triggers analgesic response in the body to fight pain and reduce swelling. In cocktails, Pineapple juice goes best with Vodka and is often a regular juice in many Vodka cocktails.

Maniis an ERP and SaaS developer and architect by day and a cocktail enthusiast in her leisure. She holds a Masters in Computer Application and Programming.
