#2 Irish Car Bomb

Starting when, could Americans order mixed drinks in a bar?

MORE

Americans were happily ordering cocktails at bars since 1860, but then in the 1920, Prohibition was enacted and then, after long thirteen years, In 1933 the 21st Amendment was passed repealing Prohibition.

This amendment gave states the power to control alcohol sales within their own borders. So, while some states continued to prohibit alcohol sales others quickly lifted their bans.

As a result, Americans were able to order mixed drinks in a bar starting in 1933. A happy goodbye to hush hush speakeasies and bootlegging of hooch, it was.

#2 Irish Car Bomb Recipe

-Pour 3/4 oz. of whiskey in shot glass -layer 1/4 oz. Irish cream on top of whiskey -Drop shot glass into 3/4 glass beer and drink all at once.

The Irish Car Bomb, Irish Slammer or Bomb Drop is a cocktail made by dropping a shot of Irish cream and whiskey into a glass of stout.

The Irish reference comes mostly from the ingredients, viz. Guinness Stout, Bailey's Cream and the likes of Jameson Whiskey,

While, the Car Bomb nomenclature is for reason as explained above.

The Irish Car Bomb has been controversial and pray do not ask for it in a pub in Dublin. This cocktail was created in 1979 by Charles Burke Cronin Oat of Wilsonu2019s Saloon in Connecticut. This cocktail is a derivative of an earlier creation of Oat where he mixed Baileys Irish Cream and Kahlua and named it Grandfather, he then later added Jameson Irish Whiskey to it and named it "IRA"!

He later invented a new drink by dropping that shot of a Grandfather into a pint of Guinness, and the mini explosion that it caused, inspired him to name it a Belfast Car Comb or the Irish Car Bomb, and the reference to the original incident of multiple car bombings of July 21, 1972 is a mere coincidence, he claimed.

So you see? the creator claimed innocence but the controversy remained, and it's not a drink that is in the good books of the people of Ireland or even the American Irish.
