Named for a 17th century Bavarian prince, this simple shaken cocktail combines just whiskey and anise liqueur. Good blended Scotch offers a solid spirit foundation. Anisette provides subtle complementary licorice spice. That`s it! The two ingredients are briskly shaken with ice to briskly blend and chill. Fine straining into a chilled glass ensures smooth texture. Expressing a lemon twist over the top releases fresh citrus aromatics. • Blended Whiskey

A Blended Whiskey or a blended whisky is a blend of different types of whiskeys with addition of neutral grain spirits, colourings and flavours.

Blending whiskey is a commercial venture to make rare whiskey more accessible by adding cheaper grain spirits with minimum ageing life with aged straight or single malt whiskey in a way that the qualities and flavours of the single malt can be enjoyed to an extent while not having to pay the premium price of a Single Malt Straight Whiskey.

Johnnie Walker, Chivas Regal, Canadian Club, Canadian Mist, Jameson Irish Whiskey are good examples of premium blended whiskey that have crafted a space of their own in the world of a whiskey aficionado.

  • Anisette

Anisette is as the name suggests, an anise flavoured liqueur most commonly consumed in the Mediterranean countries. It is a colourless, sweet liqueur and the sweetness comes from the added sugar, which is in contrast with dry anise flavoured spirits like Absinthe.

Anisette have two distinct production variations, one is a distilled drink, created by distilling fermented anise, and the other is a simple maceration of anise filtered to Anisette.

Note that often Pastis liqueur is confused with Anisette but Pastis is different and it uses Licorice and Anise.

Note: To substitute Anisette in a cocktail, if absolutely necessary, either steep Anise Extract and Anise Oil ( preferably Green Anise, since Anisette is created with Mediterranean Green Anise ) in neutral Vodka for a few days and add sugar syrup to finish, and use, or use Anise Seed and follow Home Recipes for Anisette to create your own.
