Blended Whiskey
A Blended Whiskey or a blended whisky is a blend of different types of whiskeys with addition of neutral grain spirits, colourings and flavours.
Blending whiskey is a commercial venture to make rare whiskey more accessible by adding cheaper grain spirits with minimum ageing life with aged straight or single malt whiskey in a way that the qualities and flavours of the single malt can be enjoyed to an extent while not having to pay the premium price of a Single Malt Straight Whiskey.
Johnnie Walker, Chivas Regal, Canadian Club, Canadian Mist, Jameson Irish Whiskey are good examples of premium blended whiskey that have crafted a space of their own in the world of a whiskey aficionado.Pernod Licorice Liqueur
Pernod Anise is an anise flavoured liqueur invented in France in 1920, after Absinthe was banned in 1915. Pernod is made from distillates of star anise and fennel blended with distillates of 14 herbs including chamomile, coriander and veronica.
Note that Pernod is positioned somewhere in between Anisette and Pastis, since it has Liquorice but it has less Liquorice influence than Pastis.Dark Creme De Cacao
Creme de Cacao is a chocolate liqueur that has probably been produced and sold in France since as early as 1666. In America a Chocolate wine was popular in the 18th Century, it's ingredients included sherry, port, chocolate and sugar.
A modern recipe for chocolate liqueur at home lists the ingredients as chocolate extract, vanilla extract and simple syrup and in purest form, chocolate liqueur is clear and colours may be added.
Creme de Cacao can be consumed straight and as an apertif, in cocktails and in desserts, in dessert sauces, cakes and truffles.Heavy Cream
Cream can be used to make a creamy cocktail, but when you make a cream cocktail make sure you whip and make your own version. You can also go for a heavy whipped cream which is thicker than regular cream and milk fat can be between 30%-40%.
For a rich and creamy cocktail recipe, combine heavy cream with one shot of alcohol and powdered sugar, then whip it until soft peaks form for a fluffy consistency or you can use it as a loose cream.
