Son of a Bitch, Give me a Drink, or the SOB is a popular song, and all we know about the phrase Son of a Bitch, is that first use of it can be found from 1955.

Although this phrase is most widely used in America and has long been associated with American Culture, it's not exactly American in origin and not from 1955 either.

William Shakespeare used an expression pretty close to it in King Lear, 1605.

One that art nothing but the composition of a Knave, Begger, Coward, Pandar, and the Sonne and Heire of a Mungrill Bitch.

An exact usage appears in Beaumont and Fletcher's Coxcombe, from 1625.

They had no mothers, they are the sons of bitches.

Refer to Phrases UK for above.

The name of the cocktail probably has to do with the quirky way of using "SOB" or "Sonofa" or "Son of a Bitch" in daily conversation in the Americas, it's so ingrained in American culture, that one tired soul might actually call out a bartender just like that.

So goes the cocktail from "Son of a Bitch, Give me a Drink" to "gimme a Son of a Bitch drink" maybe. What do you think?
