According to a survey conducted by the International Bartenders Association the most popular cocktail in the world is the Margarita. The Margarita is a refreshing and easy-to-make cocktail that consists of tequila lime juice and triple sec. It can be served on the rocks or frozen and is garnished with a lime wedge.

Steelworks Recipe


Fill a glass up to 3/4 with ice cubes. Add the soda water to the level of ice-cubes then pour the cola tonic. Fill to the top with ginger beer and add the bitters. Stir and enjoy.

Steelworks is a low alcohol refreshing cocktail that is very popular at golf clubs in South Africa and is a popular summer drink.


Not sure if it?s really Stan Trollip who created the Steelworks, but there are references that says it?s his cocktail.

Stan Trollip is one half the writing team of Michael Stanley ( pen name of writer and professor Michael Sears) , the author of the Botswana based Detective series, surrounding the works of Detective Kubu.


Inspector Kubu?s favourite drink when he?s on duty and can?t drink wine or beer, is a cocktail called Steelworks. Kubu drinks then ice cold and two at a time.

  • Bitters

    Alcoholic spirits infused with botanicals such as herbs, roots, fruits and leaves, are called Bitters.
    Bitters consist of water and alcohol which has been steeped with various herbs, fruits, leaves etc. Bitters are not to be drank neat or even as the base spirit of a cocktail, these are usually concentrated alcoholic concoctions and just a dash or a few drops are all we need to add that taste to a cocktail.
    There are exceptions and some bitters like the Italian Amari is consumed without mixing in a cocktail. It has a bitter sweet taste and alcohol content is somewhere between 16%-40%. Generally in Europe its being consumed as an after dinner digestif.

  • Cola Tonic

    Claytons Cola Tonic or Kola Tonic is an exotic Caribbean made tonic, originally created by the Clayton brothers in Battersea, London England in around 1880. This non-alcoholic tonic is made from genuine West African Kola Nut extract, a well-known natural stimulant. Claytons Kola Tonic is a refreshing and invigorating drink that can be mixed with Gin, Rum, Vodka, Beer and Stout, Lemonade, Ginger Ale, Ginger Beer, Soda Water or Orange Juice.

  • Ginger Beer

    Ginger Beer like Ginger Ale is a carbonated non-alcoholic beverage that is produced by the natural fermentation of prepared ginger spice, yeast and sugar. Ginger Beer has a stronger flavour and often uses real ginger while Ginger Ale uses ginger syrup.

    Ginger beer started with spice trade with the orient and probably was an Oriental import since ginger fermented beer has been in use as medicine in China and India since 500 BC.

    Ginger Beer is regulated to 2% alcohol if any alcohol is present at all.

  • Soda Water

    Soda refers to carbonated water, sweetened, flavoured or plain, but there is a difference between Soda and plain Carbonated Water or Sparkling Water, which is known as Seltzer Water, while Seltzer Water is plain water carbonated to add fizz, Soda water contains potassium bicarbonate and potassium sulphate in the water, and according to research Seltzer Water is safer for teeth health and sparkling water provides true hydration and is better at it than regular soda or diet soda.

Maniis an ERP and SaaS developer and architect by day and a cocktail enthusiast in her leisure. She holds a Masters in Computer Application and Programming.
