This British take on sangria combines crisp apple cider with lively ginger beer and a squeeze of lime. The key is adding the soda ginger beer after the cider, to preserve its effervescence. After filling a jug with ice, lime slices are squeezed in for a burst of fresh citrus. Lightly stirred just before serving, Boxing Juice provides a lovely quenching drink, ideal for leisurely lunches or summer barbecues. Fruity cider and spicy ginger beer pair delightfully. Boxing Juice Recipe


First get the ice, cut the lime into segments and squeeze the juice while dropping the lime into the jug. Next add the ginger beer. Then pour in the cider. The cider should sit on the top of the ginger beer at which point you mix it up throughly. Serve in a tall glass. This is call a British Summer Time because it may not be strong but it is very enjoyable. It was designed as a lunch time or barbeque drink, for sitting outside in the sun but not getting too drunk. Best enjoyed with friends

  • Cider

    Cider can be of two types, alcoholic and the non-alcoholic apple cider, of the alcoholic ciders, there are two varieties. One being, Hard Cider, which is a fermented alcoholic beverage made from apple juice, hard cider is akin to beer and is less alcoholic than wine. The other is, Dry Cider, which is also a fermented liquor made from apple juice, but the dry cider is allowed to ferment almost all of the sugar in apples and has less than 0.5% residual sugar and is more acidic and less sweet than Hard Cider. The yeast consumes the natural sugar of cider and makes the dry cider less sweet and highly alcoholic.

  • Ginger Beer

    Ginger Beer like Ginger Ale is a carbonated non-alcoholic beverage that is produced by the natural fermentation of prepared ginger spice, yeast and sugar. Ginger Beer has a stronger flavour and often uses real ginger while Ginger Ale uses ginger syrup.

    Ginger beer started with spice trade with the orient and probably was an Oriental import since ginger fermented beer has been in use as medicine in China and India since 500 BC.

    Ginger Beer is regulated to 2% alcohol if any alcohol is present at all.

  • Lime

    Lime Juice being rich in Vitamin C is an excellent remedy for sore throat and aids in digestion and controls blood sugar, and also promoted weight loss. It is used for various culinary and non-culinary purposes all over the world. Lime juice is known to reduce or even reverse the effects of excessive alcohol consumption and intoxication.
    The difference between Lime Juice and Lemon Juice is that although the sweet and sour Lemon and the bitter and sour Lime are two different fruits, they have similar properties and tastes similar too, the Lime, unlike the sweet and large Lemon, is used raw and is usually plucked green and has more bitterness and sourness in it's taste, and is grown better in tropical and sub-tropical climates.
    In drink mixing, fresh lemon juice brings a tangy zing to so many classic drinks and in fact, it's the most used ingredient in drink mixing other than the liquors of course.

    Lime Cordial is a non-alcoholic drink made by mixing concentrated lime juice, sugar and water, it has a tart lime flavour, sweeter than lime juice and more bitter and sour than lime syrup, and is used frequently in cocktails.

    Strawberry limeade is a refreshing summer cooler made with fresh strawberries, freshly squeezed lime juice and sugar. It is tart, sweet and absolutely delicious!

    Jello Lime or Jell-O Lime is a lime flavoured gelatine mix for ready to make lemon jelly and is a regular instant jelly/jello maker around the world.

    Ke Ke Beach Key Lime Cream Liqueur is a unique cream liqueur that tastes like the Key Lime pie down to the Graham cracker crust. It can be drank on its own, over ice or in a number of Ke Ke cocktails

    A lime sorbet is simple lime sugar and water but as per FDA standards, a sherbet has to have cream and must contain between one and two percent milk fat.

    Ice tempers a hard liquor, and as is in the case of whisky for example, if you prefer the flavours of whisky reach your nose without the hard note of spirit lingering around, or want to avoid the mild sting of a neat whisky, a cube of ice mellows the strength down a little and as it melts slowly, the aroma and flavour is released from the whisky slowly and makes whisky progressively weak, lingering and palatable.
