In the United Stated, alcohol was banned from 1920-1933, the Movement gained popular progressive support and the Prohibition Supporters called "drys" were both Democratic and Republican and gained a national grassroot base through the Woman's Christian Temperance Union. But despite the popular support, Prohibition was never enforced in some places like Kansas City, Missouri.

Vodka Infusion: Kiwi Recipe


Fill a shaker glass with ice. Add infused Vodka, Campari, Cointreau, and fresh juice. Cap mixer glass and shake vigorously. Strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish and serve. Making Kiwi Grapefruit Infusion- 1 bottle (750 ml) Vodka- 1 ruby grapefruit, quartered or left whole and poked with a skewer 20 times- 3 kiwi, skin-on, quartered- 1 1/2 teaspoons pink peppercornsRinse fruit well. Place fruit and peppercorns in an infusion jar and top with Vodka. Let infuse for 2 days, then strain and place infused Vodka in an attractive container.

  • Campari

    Campari is an apertif, obtained from the infusion of herbs and fruits in alcohol and water. It is a bitters and has a distinctive red colour, which originally was a carmine dye, the crimson dye obtained from crushed cochineal insects, however use of Carmine has been discontinued since 2006. Campari was invented in 1860 by Gaspare Campari in Novara, Italy and is now owned by Gruppo Campari. Campari is bottled at 20.5% to 28% ABV depending on the country it is sold in. The flavour of Campari is bitter, spicy and sweet and is an essential ingredient in several classic cocktails like Negroni, the Garibaldi and the Americano.

  • Cointreau

    Cointreau is a brand of Triple-Sec, a Triple-Sec is an Orange flavoured liqueur made by macerating sun-dried orange peels in alcohol for at least a day before passing through a three step distillation process.

    Cointreau Distillery was set up by Adolphe Cointreau, a confectioner, and his brother Edouard-Jean Cointreau, in 1849.

    The distillery found success in blending sweet and bitter orange skin and macerating them in alcohol from sugar beets, and the first bottle of Cointreau came out in 1875.

    Cointreau is an 80 proof liqueur, 40% ABV.
