When did the word ‘cocktail’ first appear in print?
MOREThe word ‘cocktail’ first appeared in print is in 1803, and three years later, the definition of the word appeared in the May 6 1806 edition of The Balance and Columbian Repository a newspaper published in Hudson New York. The definition given was “a stimulating liquor composed of any kind of sugar water and bitters”. This is thought to be the first time that the word was used in reference to a mixed drink.

Shake ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Strain into glass. The drink has a yellowish tint to it when done correctly.
