Cowboy Kool-Aid

Did you know that a "Stiff Drink" is originally stuff that horror stories are made of?

MORE

In early 19th Century America, whiskey was served straight from barrels and these barrels of low quality hooch was also used by grave diggers to store and transport stolen bodies, since the alcohol prevented the bodies from rotting, and could pass off as barrels of whiskey in transport,

The worst part is, once the bodies were transported over the newly laid railroad and were off loaded at the laboratories, the thieves wouldn't discard the whiskey and would sell it to unsuspecting customers. These were called Stiff Drinks.

Cowboy Kool-Aid Recipe

Take a clean, empty, plastic gallon jug. Pour in the smallest can of frozen limeade you can find, about 6 oz Add all six cans of ice-cold Mountain Dew. Pour the entire pint of 190 proof Everclear into the jug. Add enough cold water to bring the brew close to the top of the jug (about a cup or so.) Now shake it very, very gently with the lid on the jug. It'll fizz, so don't shake it hard! Pour into mason jars (or sip right from the jug if you're so inclined) and enjoy.

Cowboy Kool-Aid is one of those Big Batch Cocktails that are forever popular in pool parties. backyard meets and BBQs.

Like most cocktail names, this one too is not bereft of popular American cultural icons, euphemisms and references to incidents and of course some amount of sexual reference too.

Cowboy Kool-Aid often refers to a lot of things including semen as per Urban Dictionary and the semi frozen light texture might refer to that, but there are a lot more to it than just plain old semen.

The popular phrase Drinking the Kool-Aid refers to irrational and extremist followership, where one could go as far as even drinking the Kool-Aid for the cause.

This phrase gained traction from an event in Jonestown, Guyana where over 900 members of the Peoples Temple movement died when their leader proposed "revolutionary suicide" by drinking a powdered drink laced with cyanide, and the followers of the movement's leader Jim Jones followed and died.

Kool-Aid is a popular drink but it has some serious notoriety over it's content too. but the reference to Kool-Aid is not from that. it's all about the eyewitness reference of some Cool Aid being used in the mass suicide that made Kool-Aid brand associated with the event and the phtase and has been referred to as the "Kool-Aid drill" even in politics, a "Kool-Aid drill without the cyanide" meant the same overzealous followership sans the extreme measures.

The name Cowboy Kool-Aid thus. is not just a plain old adult reference, it has more to it, it is a big batch drink just like they drank to commit "revolutionary suicide" and is a strong and wild drink too.

  • 190 Proof Everclear

Everclear is an American grain spirit, rather a neat rectified spirit and since it's bottled at as high as 95% purity too, it's nothing but rectified spirit. Everclear is bottled at 60%, 75.5% and 90% ABV and despite it's ban in several US states, it's ridiculously high alcohol content and a hard to put out flame when lit, has made it an iconic spirit of notorious reputation.

Some often ask if this is clear distilled grain spirit, then why is it not Vodka? It's not Vodka because Vodka never had this high alcohol content and Vodka is not this rectified, Vodka still retains some flavours of the ingredients but Everclear is almost medical grade pure alcohol.

If you are in the following states of the USA, it will be illegal for you to drink Everclear.

States that currently ban the sale of Everclear include California, Florida, Maine, Massachusetts, Hawaii, Iowa, Michigan, New York, Nevada, Ohio, Washington, North Carolina, New Hampshire and Minnesota - The Badger Herald

  • Frozen Limeade Concentrate Minute Maid

Strawberry limeade is a refreshing summer cooler made with fresh strawberries, freshly squeezed lime juice and sugar. It is tart, sweet and absolutely delicious!

  • Water

Water might seem like one ubiquitous ingredient in any alcoholic beverage, and to have no specific purpose other than dilute the alcohol, to prevent irritation and burn, it has more purpose to its presence than it seems.
Water breaks the alcohol molecules and attaches to them and releases the esters that holds the secret to the aroma into the drink and to the nose. Temperature of water is important and although almost all cocktails are served chilled, be sure to understand the role water plays in a drink. Another factor is the quality of water, if you are serious about your cocktail, be sure to use the best neutral tap water or preferably bottled spring water if possible.
